The CEO of Binance, Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, alerted the crypto community about a massive SMS phishing scam targeting Binance customers. In a tweet on Friday, CZ actively warned users of phishing campaigns being run via SMS targeting Binance users.
According to a screenshot shared by CZ, the scam involves sending users a text message containing a link to cancel withdrawals. This link leads users to a fake website where they are required to input their Binance account login credentials.
A warning has been issued by the CEO of Binance that users should stay away from clicking on links in SMS messages. Instead, they should type in the URL for the exchange manually.
Since the beginning of 2022, there have been several reports of phishing and hacking, with some platforms as a result suffering a significant loss as a result of these attacks.
In the most recent hack of the Wormhole bridge that links Solana and Ethereum, the protocol suffered a $230 million loss as a result. Recently warnings have also been issued about cybercriminals targeting browser plugin/extension wallets, such as Coinbase and MetaMask.
