Trump Slams Elon Musk’s Third-Party Launch
In a fiery post on Truth Social, former President Trump called Musk’s new political party “a bad idea” and “totally off the rails.” He compared the billionaire to a “train wreck,” saying the move will splinter conservative votes and empower Democrats.
The fallout marks a significant rift between the two once-allied figures as Musk moves deeper into American politics.
Musk’s America Party Aims to Disrupt the System
Just hours before Trump’s remarks, Musk unveiled the America Party on X (formerly Twitter), positioning it as a solution to what he described as a “one-party system” in Washington, D.C.
He slammed recent legislation—including Congress’ approval of a $3.3 trillion tax and spending bill—as proof that both parties are corrupt and out of touch.
Musk’s plan? Target 2–3 Senate races and up to 10 House of Representatives districts in the 2026 midterms to position his party as a legislative power broker.
Trump: “It’s Ridiculous and Dangerous”
Trump warned that third parties never succeed in the United States. He emphasized the strength of the Republican Party and accused Musk of introducing “disruption” that only helps the “radical left.”
He also claimed the America Party could “steal” support from Republican candidates and lead to Democratic wins in swing states.
Advisors close to Trump expressed concern that key conservative figures like Marjorie Taylor Greene and Thomas Massie could shift their loyalty to Musk.
Treasury Joins the Backlash
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also criticized Musk, telling USA TODAY, “Why doesn’t he just stay focused on his business?”
In a CNN interview, Bessent argued that Tesla and SpaceX shareholders did not sign up for Musk’s political disruption. He warned that Musk’s board may eventually push back against his new agenda.
He also referenced Musk’s short-lived tenure at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)—a Trump-initiated agency named after Dogecoin that Musk briefly led before stepping down in May.
Former Allies, Now Political Rivals
What began as a working relationship between Trump and Musk has now turned hostile.
In a symbolic jab, Musk posted a quote from Dune: “Fear is the mind-killer,” alluding to Trump’s perceived fear of his political momentum.
Trump, in return, made veiled threats about revoking Musk’s federal contracts and even his U.S. citizenship, adding fuel to an already explosive political drama.
America Party: Reform or Ruin?
As the 2026 elections approach, the launch of the America Party has sparked intense debate. Some see it as a long-overdue correction to two-party dominance, while others warn it could be the spoiler that fractures the political right.
Only time will tell whether this bold third-party experiment reforms the system—or helps Democrats gain the upper hand.
