BlackRock Explores Tokenized ETFs on Blockchain
BlackRock, the largest asset manager in the world, is reportedly considering tokenizing its exchange-traded funds (ETFs) following the success of its spot Bitcoin ETFs.
According to Bloomberg, the company is exploring ways to bring ETFs onto blockchain networks, especially those associated with real-world assets (RWA). While the potential is significant, major regulatory hurdles remain before mainstream adoption.
Benefits of Tokenized ETFs Include:
- Trading beyond standard market hours.
- Being used as collateral in DeFi applications.
- Unlocking new liquidity and accessibility for investors.
BlackRock’s Tokenization Push Builds Momentum
This is not BlackRock’s first step into blockchain finance. Its USD Institutional Digital Liquidity Fund (BUIDL) is the world’s largest tokenized money market fund, managed across Ethereum, Avalanche, Aptos, and Polygon.
Other Wall Street giants are moving toward tokenized assets as well:
- JPMorgan anticipates the $7 trillion ETF industry will advance due to tokenization.
- Goldman Sachs and BNY Mellon are testing tokenized funds.
- BNY Mellon customers may soon take custody of money market shares on Goldman Sachs’ private blockchain.

Why Tokenized ETFs Could Change Everything
Tokenized ETFs have the potential to transform traditional finance by:
- Breaking barriers between Wall Street and DeFi.
- Making typically closed or time-limited assets available 24/7.
- Enabling assets to be used within crypto and blockchain ecosystems.
If successful, BlackRock’s tokenized ETFs could become the next evolution in global investment, much like Bitcoin ETFs revolutionized digital asset investing.
