Qubic Sets Its Sights on Dogecoin
The crypto world is bracing for another shockwave. Only a few days after gaining a majority stake over the Monero (XMR) network, members of the Qubic community have voted for Dogecoin (DOGE) next.
Sergey Ivancheglo, aka Come-from-Beyond, proposed to community members to decide which ASIC-enabled, proof-of-work blockchain should undergo the next coordinated takeover of the network. Options included Dogecoin, Kaspa (KAS), and Zcash (ZEC).
The result? Dogecoin is the winning choice and it has pocketed over 300 votes, more than all other options combined. With a valuation greater than $35 billion, Dogecoin is by far the largest network Qubic has ever attempted to attack.
How Qubic Cracked Monero’s Defenses
Earlier this week, Qubic left the crypto world astonished after carrying out a 51% attack on Monero. Monero has long been considered a leading privacy coin that could not be taken over.
Qubic is currently mining Monero. According to MiningPoolStats, Qubic’s mining pool commands around 2.32 GH/s hashrate — enough for majority dominance. Qubic miners took over and reversed six blocks, ending a month-long tussle with rival Monero miners.
The main features of Monero’s network are still intact, according to Qubic, adding that privacy, speed, and usability have not been affected. However, the group admitted their ultimate goal is for Monero’s security to be powered entirely by Qubic miners.
Monero Deposits Frozen by Kraken Exchange
The attack has already had ripple effects. The well-known crypto exchange Kraken has suspended Monero deposits amid fears over the integrity of the crypto network after a single pool held a majority.
Trading and withdrawals are still available, but the exchange has said it will only allow deposits once it deems the Monero network safe again.
Why Dogecoin Could Be Next in Line
Targeting Dogecoin raises the stakes dramatically. To bring it back to the beginning, we have Dogecoin. It is nothing new, as it has appeared almost everywhere.
If Qubic beats Dogecoin’s hashrate, it will rock proof-of-work security models and, therefore, confidence in one of the most visible assets in the industry.
For now, Qubic’s move is just a community vote. After its victory in Monero, the attack on Dogecoin no longer appears to be a dream — its showdown feels imminent.
The Bigger Picture
Qubic’s move reveals an uncomfortable truth: proof-of-work blockchains are vulnerable if enough mining power can be assembled in one place.
If one of the most famous cryptocurrencies, Dogecoin, is hacked, it may reignite the debate on the security of cryptocurrency mining and network centralization.
In short, the successful Qubic–Monero takeover was not the end but maybe just the beginning. And if Dogecoin really is next, then the cryptocurrency world may be about to face its biggest security test yet.
